First Baptist Church Lincoln Gardens was established in 1934 and has oneof the largest followings in New Jersey of over 6000 members. The headpastor is Deforest B. Soaries,former Secretary of State of New Jersey andformer chairman of the federal Election Assistance Commission. The Churchhas been at its current location since 1949 and played an active role inthe black community during the time of the civil rights movement.
