St. Vladimir is a Ukrainian Catholic Church on Grier Ave in Elizabeth, New Jersey. The church is an Eastern Orthodox church and therefore it is very different in mass style than the many Roman Catholic churches in the Elizabeth area. The building pictured above was established in 1911 but the original, much smaller structure was built in 1904. The increase of the church size was due to the influx of Ukrainians migrating from both Jersey City and Europe itself. Today, the church’s pastor is Father Joseph Szupa who has been the church’s religious leader since 2001.
So great to find this image. I made my first holy communion in Ukrainian in this church. My father was a member, my grandfather married here, and great grandfather’s funeral mass was made by the priest here.
